One of the consequences of being right in an age of lies is that it brands you as a radical. Remember that being an extremist doesn't mean you're wrong, but simply that your views deviate greatly from those of the mainstream. If you say that 2+2=4 in a land where everyone else insists it's 5, you'll be labeled a radical. The same is true if you assert that a certain society of men is full of wolves when everyone else believes they're sheep.

If you're a frequent visitor to this site, you might have noticed a recent change, the lefthand-side banner advertisement for a documentary titled "Demographic Winter." It's the first ad ever to appear at SelwynDuke.com, and for good reason.

One of the very best columnists on the journalistic scene is Walter Williams. His articles aren't filled with flowery prose or esoteric terms (like esoteric!); they just cut to the heart of the matter and provide simple, reasoned analysis. In fact, I can hardly think of an instance where he has written something with which I disagree. Every piece is a home run, including this one, about how Congress, at the behest of environmentalist extremists, is largely responsible for our high oil prices.

Hillary Clinton recently scored political points talking about that infamous wage gap between the sexes. This inspired Carey Roberts -- a writer who mainly focuses on issues relating to feminism -- to pen a piece exploring the notion that this gap is attributable to discrimination. Roberts makes an excellent point as one of his opening salvos:

I'd appreciate a viable alternative energy source as much as anyone else. After all, who wouldn't like to run his car for a third or fourth the cost? I don't have much confidence in government schemes to develop those new sources, however, and the May 12 edition of The Wall Street Journal helps to illustrate why.

The director of economic policy studies at the Hudson Institute, Irwin Stelzer, has penned a very interesting article called "It's a myth that the world's oil is running out." As the title indicates, Stelzer puts forth the thesis that the Earth contains enough accessible oil to last for generations. Moreover, he says that when these ample fuel resources are not exploited, it's only due to factors such as politics, bad economic decisions and war. And he provides several examples of nations in which this is the case, such as:

Writer Marilyn Barnewall has written a piece about the sub-prime mortgage crisis titled "Dollar Woes: Part of a One World Government Conspiracy?" Marilyn is a fine lady who I occasionally correspond with, and she also used to work in the banking industry. Thus, she can offer a rarely-heard perspective on the situation in question.

A long time ago I wrote about the left's very successful manipulation of language. I think about this when I hear about socialized medicine schemes and "free health care."

The great economist Thomas Sowell just wrote an article about the perils of government intervention and stimulus packages. He writes:
Both political parties seem determined that the federal government should create a "stimulus package" of things designed to cushion a downturn in the economy.
That alone should be enough to make us remember that "the devil is always in the details," because things that are bipartisan are often twice as bad as things that are partisan.

I will occasionally respond to reader emails at this site, but today is a first. I'm going to respond to a poster, Ray Hicks. Mr. Hicks has complained about my commentary on the free market, and he believes he has caught me in a contradiction. Below are his two posts on the subject. My response follows.
